NEW SHOWS ANNOUNCED AT CITY WINERY WASHINGTON DC
Jenny & The Mexicats (11/6), The Heather McDonald Experience: Stand Up Comedy & Juicy Scoop (February 2020)
Washington, D.C. (June 3, 2019)—City Winery Washington DC (1350 Okie St NE) is proud to announce new acts coming to the urban venue’s two stages this fall, as well as its first 2020 booking. Dynamic, multicultural band Jenny and the Mexicats, returns to DC in November with a distinctive blend of flamenco, jazz, folk and cumbia, performed in both English and Spanish. And in February, City Winery welcomes comedian and author Heather McDonald for a night of stand-up comedy and celebrity gossip. The actress best known for her appearances on Chelsea Lately, marks the beginning of winter shows to go on sale beginning this week.
Also on sale this week are special performances by soulful pop singer Eric Hutchinson, regarded cover artists from The THE BAND Band playing all of the legendary American rock band’s classic hits, and two shows by American R&B singer songwriter Raheem DeVaughn. In the fall, City Winery hosts versatile Canadian jazz trumpeter and vocalist Bria Skonberg for her first Washington DC performance in over five years.
This week at City Winery starts with a special evening hosted by Michael Smerconish. His program “Clowns To The Left Of Me, Jokers To The Right: American Life In Columns” discusses the writing of the independent pundit whose common sense is juxtaposed against many of today’s media provocateurs. In the Wine Garden, Johnny A. performs “Just Me…And My Guitars” a celebration of the British songbook of the 1960s. Tomorrow, Monifah & Russell Taylor bring big voice R&B to the main stage.
Sirius Company takes over the Wine Garden on Wednesday for a monthly installment of go-go featuring Ms. Kim & Scooby, while Philip Bailey performs his “Love Will Find A Way” tour in the main venue. That evening the wine team will host a blind tasting workshop in first level event space. And on Thursday, the regular 80s and 90s throwback party Secret Society will get guests dancing in the Wine Garden, while Australian bassist Tal Wilkenfeld performs selections from her new album “Love Remains” in the main venue.
The weekend starts Friday evening with a special live performance of the Bad On Paper Podcast, and the beverage team hosts a special drink and learn program highlighting tequila. Saturday starts bright and early with the regular rooftop vino and vinyasa yoga class. That evening Capital Pride presents Defiance!, a DJ hosted dance party to benefit the local LGBTQ+ non-profit. Sunday, City Winery proudly welcomes legendary adult contemporary star Richard Marx for two shows featuring his classic hits and new music from his decades’ long repertoire.
In June, City Winery continues its sponsorship of Capital Pride, having selected the non-profit as the beneficiary of the month’s Flights for a Cause promotion. Every flight sold in June, City Winery will donate a portion of the proceeds to benefit Capital Pride’s year round programs.
