Curated Black-Owned Spirits Program Launches in Washington D.C.
Sip+Tipple offers personalized online shopping experience, exclusive benefits enhancing at-home bar experiences with Black-owned brands
Washington, D.C. — Sip+Tipple is proud to announce its launch as the first D.C.-based, woman-owned and Black-owned spirits membership program. Sip+Tipple exists to provide a unique, personalized experience to each member by providing both excellent products and education about new and long-treasured Black-owned spirits and mixers brands from around the country, as well as creating curated bottle recommendations and cocktail recipes hand-picked to match individual tastes and interests.
Sip+Tipple’s mission is to create a powerful community built on the foundation of connectivity and exploration, making it easier for members to find the Black-owned brands they love, discover new brands and their dynamic makers, understand the appeal of individual palates, and engage with one another, bringing awareness and elevating the culture that shapes these unique products.
“There are over 160 Black-owned spirits available throughout the country right now,” said Kimberly Hall, Founder of Sip+Tipple. “Due to limited distribution channels, finding those brands can often be challenging. We have several brands based right here in the capital region that can only be found in a few stores. I want to provide a seamless way for people to fulfill their Black-owned spirits wish list and introduce new customers to products that may be totally new to them.”
The conceptualization of Sip+Tipple began when Hall was scrolling through social media and realized the sheer volume of local Black-owned spirits that she had never heard of. She began researching, ordering, and tasting new Black-owned brands, sharing her excitement with friends and family. She soon realized the lack of knowledge she and so many others had about Black-owned spirits, or the difficult process required to find them locally. She built Sip+Tipple to help curious people like herself support, enjoy, appreciate, and share Black-owned spirit brands in a convenient, fun and educational manner.
Sip+Tipple has carefully built an inventory of more than 50 excellent, unique brands that will be offered seasonally as part of the platform’s launch and throughout the year. The online store is a one-stop shop for members, conveniently stocked with home bar products including mixers and bar tools delivered right to their door. The changing seasonal options are hand-selected to enhance the at-home bar experience with new unique bottle releases, cocktail recipes and community events each quarter.
Some of the unique spirits in the first quarterly box, some of which cannot be found at any Washington D.C. retail store, include:
Duke & Dame Salted Caramel Flavored Whiskey: a premium flavored whiskey, originated in South Florida, with a variety of aromas with a satisfyingly buttery sweetness smooth finish.
Talero Tequila Silver Organic: a traditional tequila from distiller Ben Carter, with an exceptionally clean blue agave bouquet and a slightly fruity flavor as a result of the special manufacturing process. It won Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2012.
Cane Collective Handcrafted Mixers: a variety of mixers that started three years ago in the Washington Metropolitan area bringing a handcrafted cocktail experience with mixers such as: Guava Tiki Punch, CAnE Southside and Passion Fruit Jalapeno.
Tom Bullock Burnt Orange Bourbon: an award-winning bourbon, named after the first Black American to publish a cocktail recipe book in 1917, with touches of orange and a sweet, smoky, caramelized pulp taste followed up and rounded with a soft spice that lingers after each sip.
Loft and Bear Artisanal Vodka: a fresh and modern vodka with mild, buttery and mellow wheat notes with an elegant vanilla creaminess finish that started in a loft in downtown LA in 2014.
Whiskey Wright Cherrywood Smoked Whiskey: a smoked whiskey with notes of vanilla, caramel and oak combined with the water that flows from the Shenandoah mountains to create an ultra-smooth finish.
As a digitally-native spirits collective focused solely on Black-owned brands, Sip+Tipple vendors, makers, and members are welcomed into a community centered around cultural identity, appreciation, curated experiences, convenience and taste. Upon joining, members are asked to complete a short online flavor quiz to define their taste, interests, tolerance levels and spirit type preferences. The information is then used to curate a personalized quarterly delivery featuring two full-sized bottles, tasting notes, cocktail recipes, and information on upcoming virtual and in-person events including mixology classes, culinary pairings with local chefs, in-home tasting experiences and more.
Hall enlisted the help of Tracie Franklin, Sip+Tipple’s spirits curator, who will recommend bottles and develop cocktail recipes to match members' flavor profiles. Franklin brings to Sip+Tipple over a decade of expertise working as an ambassador for renowned brands like Glenfiddich Scotch, Angel’s Envy Whiskey, and Rhum JM. She has appeared in national media including The Today Show, Good Morning America, and Forbes, while also receiving numerous wine, whiskey and spirit certifications.
Sip+Tipple delivers hand-picked curations to any address located in Washington D.C. and maintains an online store for members looking to shop beyond their membership. The platform helps to reimagine the spirits shopping experience, providing an understanding of flavor palates and preferences, and looks to fill the gap in the market for a service that celebrates Black-owned brands.
