“As we look back on everything we have achieved, we are proud to commemorate this landmark

60th anniversary,” said Ken Jarka, general manager, Washington Hilton. “Our historic hotel has been host to world-leaders, celebrities and guests from around the globe, making it a cherished icon in Washington, DC. We’re so excited to celebrate this milestone with our guests, team members and community, while continuing to preserve our hotel’s storied history and commitment to excellence. This anniversary is an affirmation of the hotel’s enduring legacy and promise for the future.”

60th Anniversary Activations

“As we celebrate Washington Hilton’s 60th anniversary, I’m excited to bring an innovative culinary perspective to a hotel with such a rich history,” said Daniel Bennett, executive chef, Washington Hilton. “Our team is dedicated to honoring the timeless traditions of this iconic hotel while introducing vibrant, modern flavors that will define the next chapter of our legacy.”

To mark the occasion and pay homage to 60 years, the culinary team is proud to unveil a specialty cocktail item inspired by the 1960s, a 1919 Boulevardier. Crafted with Maker’s Mark, cacao infused Campari, and Dolin Sweet Vermouth, the classic cocktail is a rich, elegant nod to the era garnished with an orange peel for the perfect timeless touch. Throughout the year, the culinary team will be debuting additional food and beverage items to commemorate the anniversary.

The hotel will also be hosting a special promotion by selecting a Diamond Guest of the Month. Each month, one random guest who is a Hilton Honors member will be selected and upgraded to Diamond Status for the duration of their stay, allowing them to access the tiered benefits for an elevated experience. The hotel has also designed a special web page to commemorate the 60th anniversary

A History of Innovative Design

Known for its uniquely brutalist architecture and distinct double arcs, Architect William B. Tabler created one of the first modern and innovative designs in Washington during the 1960s. The hotel was also notable for housing the largest pillarless ballroom in DC, an engineering feat that made it an attractive venue for large events and gatherings. Over the years, the hotel has undergone several transformations, including an extensive renovation in 2010 and in 2017, with the renovation focusing on its lobby to improve comfort and convenience. This included a new guest registration area and upgraded dining experiences, giving the space a more contemporary feel. Further updates were made in 2020, with a $7 million renovation of the guestrooms, offering a modernized design that complemented the recent lobby upgrades. In 2024, the Presidential, Dupont and Kalorama Suites were renovated with all new furniture, along with updates to the meeting rooms. These enhancements have helped maintain Washington Hilton's status as a premier hotel while preserving its architectural legacy.

Iconic Celebrations and Events

Located in the heart of DC, just steps away from Embassy Row and Kalorama, and in close proximity to the Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan neighborhoods, the hotel has served as an institution for some of the most important political moments and prestigious events in the nation’s history. Over the decades, the hotel has welcomed nearly every U.S. president, from President Lyndon B. Johnson to President Joe Biden, and hosted an array of monumental events. It has been the venue for inaugural balls, presidential visits and high-profile interviews, cementing its role as a key player in U.S. politics. Notably, the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner has been held at Washington Hilton since 1968, the National Prayer Breakfast since 1966 and the Congressional Club’s First Lady’s Luncheon since the late 1980s. The hotel has also welcomed a remarkable array of global dignitaries, political figures and heads of state, establishing itself as a meeting point for the world’s most influential figures.

Additionally, Washington Hilton has hosted some of the most iconic names in entertainment and culture. Legendary performers have all graced its halls and the hotel's ballroom has been a stage for some of music history's most influential artists who rocked the venue during the 1960s and 1970s. Throughout its six decades of service, Washington Hilton has solidified its status as not just a hotel, but as a cultural icon — a place where history is made, celebrated and remembered. It remains a top destination for both high-profile events and memorable cultural moments, and continues to be a landmark in Washington, D.C.

“Washington Hilton embodies the brand’s enduring promise to elevate every celebration and event, making every moment—big or small—truly unforgettable,” said Leonard Gooz, brand leader, Hilton Hotels & Resorts. “As this iconic hotel marks 60 years, we’re proud to continue to deliver unrivaled service that energizes every guest experience and creates meaningful connections. From hosting world-renowned events to providing exceptional stays for every traveler, Washington Hilton offers a vibrant hub of culture, community, and hospitality in the nation’s capital and I look forward to its next chapter.”

Fostering Community

Washington Hilton has long been more than just a destination for politicians and dignitaries — it's also a beloved neighborhood institution with deep ties to the local community. The hotel has served as the vibrant backdrop for several of DC’s most unique and cherished events, such as the Miss Adams Morgan Pageant, a dazzling celebration of creativity, community and drag culture. This pageant has become a hallmark of the local scene, showcasing the artistic flair and creativity of amateur drag performers. In addition to supporting the arts, the hotel has been a key venue for the Humane Rescue Alliance's Annual Bark Ball. This glamorous black-tie gala raises much-needed funds for rescue animals, helping the organization continue its mission to protect and find homes for animals in need.
