NEW SHOWS ANNOUNCED AT CITY WINERY WASHINGTON DC

Diverse Musical Stylings Bring Excitement to Audiences this Fall

Washington, D.C. (June 24, 2019)— The autumn season at City Winery Washington DC (1350 Okie St NE) will bring an impressive array of musical talents and live stage performances to the urban venue. Among the new shows announced this week are Japanese pop-punk sensations Shonen Knife, modern soul singer Booker T. Jones, and world-renowned guitarist Coco Montoya

As summer comes to a close, local music producers Hedrush & Groove Gumbo, present Omar! in the main venue. The London-based instrumental prodigy seamlessly navigates between trumpet, bass guitar, piano and percussion. In September local R&B icon Tony Terry will perform selections from his lengthy career which includes work with pop group Sweet Sensation and hip-hop artists The Boogie Boys. Later in the month, City Winery welcomes British singer songwriter Lloyd Cole for an extended two set show, featuring songs from his more than 20 studio albums. Also on sale this week is a special US performance by Shonen Knife, the Osaka-based pop punk band that has built a cult-like following since debuting in the 1980s. Alongside likeminded alternative rock bands Sonic Youth, Nirvana and The Ramones, they are widely credited for launching the garage rock scene in cities around Japan.

In October, Zo! & Carmen Rodgers return to Washington for another stop of their extended side-by-side tour. Each offers a distinctive sound, blending the synth rhythms of Detroit with the rich vocals and smooth melodies of Texas. In November, famed guitarist Coco Montoya makes a rare appearance in Washington, performing the passionate blues tracks for which he is widely lauded. And just before Thanksgiving, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award winner Booker T. Jones makes a stop in Washington for an intimate evening of music spanning his storied career which has navigated the evolving American jazz scene.

Tonight kicks off an incredible week at City Winery, as Vybe Band takes the stage in the Wine Garden for a night of go-go and R&B classics. Tomorrow, the dance floor rolls out for The Woggles with The Stents, while the Barrel Room restaurant hosts a beer & cheese tasting led by the culinary team. On Wednesday, The Spill Canvasperforms its “Bottle of Red Tour,” while the Wine Garden hosts the next weekly installment of homegrown go-go with Sirius Company featuring Ms. Kim & Scooby. Thursday, City Winery hosts a soulful dual album release party with Phillip "Doc" Martin performing selections from "Colors" and Earl Carter performing songs from "Silky.” That evening Executive Chef Brandon Ingenito hosts a special multi-course dinner with American Airlines featuring foods and wines from Australia.

The weekend starts with a lively set by The Georgia Satellites front man Dan Baird & Homemade Sin, complete with a main venue dance floor, while the Wine Garden fills will the electric vocal stylings of YahZarah. Saturday, City Winery is proud to welcome one of the original voices of the legendary Chicago house sound, Terisa Griffin, whose career has included empowering hit dance tracks, R&B ballads, and beautifully vocal gospel. That evening, the wine team hosts the next in its blind tasting workshop series, intended to be both delicious and educational for those curious about wines of the world.

City Winery’s first floor Barrel Room Restaurant & Wine Bar is available for pre or post-show dinner and drinks. Reservations can be made at www.citywinery.com/washingtondc/. Additionally, guests can experience a range of City Winery’s wines at the Tasting Bar, located in the entrance alcove.
