dLeña Celebrates the Earth with Viva Abejas Campaign this Spring
Embrace the importance of bees with menu offerings from March 21 to April 23
Washington, DC —dLeña by Chef Richard Sandoval is excited to announce the return of its annual Viva Abejas campaign this spring. From Tuesday, March 21, through Sunday, April 23, guests are invited to indulge in the earth’s harvests at the Mount Vernon Triangle modern Mexican concept.
One in every three bites of food depends on bees for pollination. Similar to last year, Chef Richard Sandoval aims to celebrate this integral part of the food cycle with a holistic approach to food, signature activations, cultural education, philanthropy, and more. New this year, Chef Sandoval is taking his philanthropic approach a step further by authoring his first children’s book, which is now on sale. Viva Abejas is a study into sustainability and the food cycle, highlighting the importance of pollination and conservation for early readers and bee enthusiasts alike. 100% of the book proceeds directly benefit two organizations: the Akumal Cultural Foundation, providing a free after-school program and children’s library in Akumal, Mexico, and the World Bee Project’s World Hive Network, the first global bee health platform to the world’s bee hives to a single network using AI technology.
Chef Richard Sandoval has developed food and beverage menus that demonstrate the importance of bees while highlighting Pachamama, the Incan goddess of Earth, planting, harvesting and fertility. dLeña will feature a few of these themed menu items including the enchiladas doradas ($25) with a Mexican calabacitas stew, honey-bell pepper sauce, queso fresco, crema, and corn tortilla, the Brazilian Bee ($16) with Sao Paulo Cachaça prata, coconut-infused honey, grapefruit, and lemon, and the Honey Lavender Margarita ($16) with Milagro Blanco Tequila, lime, honey, lavender, créme de violette, and triple sec. Those withstanding from alcohol will enjoy the Ritual de la Habitual ($8), made with zero-proof Ritual Tequila Alternative, Seedlip Grove, key lime, pineapple, and vanilla-infused honey. All cocktail and mocktail orders will feature wildflower seed packets so guests can bring a token home and plant flowers to directly help the bees.
